Connect and test

This update retains the hosting checks, fixes the offline-status label, and adds one fixed public journey. No credentials are included.

1. Save the key

Open your existing road-wanderer-m0-test Pages project → Settings → Variables and Secrets. Add GEOAPIFY_API_KEY as an encrypted secret in Production. Paste the key directly from your Geoapify Road Wanderer project. Do not share it in chat.

2. Add the usage counter

  1. In Cloudflare's sidebar, open Storage & databases → D1 SQL Database (wording may vary).
  2. Create a database named road-wanderer-m0-usage on the Free plan. No domain or payment details are needed. Do not add a paid plan.
  3. Return to the existing road-wanderer-m0-test Pages project → Settings → Bindings → Add binding → D1 database.
  4. Set the binding/variable name to M0_USAGE and select road-wanderer-m0-usage. Save for Production.

The application creates its counter table automatically. It stores only UTC dates and request counts, with no personal trip data. Do not delete or reset this database during a testing day: doing so resets the guard.

3. Update the existing site

  1. Open the existing Pages project's Deployments section and choose Create deployment.
  2. Select Production and upload the complete Road_Wanderer_M0_Live_Test_v0_2_2.zip. If needed, extract and upload its contents without a parent folder.
  3. Deploy. Keep the same pages.dev address; do not create another project.
  4. Reload in Safari while online. Confirm the footer says 0.2.2. If the old version remains, close and reopen the page online, then reload.

4. Run once on your iPhone

Tap Check live route and places. Expect driving distance/time for Lancaster to Gettysburg and up to five places for each of attractions, lodging, and fuel near Gettysburg. An empty category is a coverage result, not evidence that no venues exist. Report the displayed results; never send the key.

One run reserves four request slots before any external call. The entire project allows twelve attempts per UTC day, shared across browsers and server instances. Failures still count; no automatic retries occur. Requests are not provider billing credits. This limit applies only to this test endpoint, not Geoapify's dashboard or other apps using the account. Keep the account on the Free/no-payment plan. The public endpoint could have its small allowance consumed by someone else; it cannot exceed the database cap while that counter remains intact.

Distances and times are provider estimates. Prices, availability, accessibility and RV suitability are unverified. This is not the three-strategy planner. Live provider responses have not been tested with your saved secret in this revision.

5. Refresh the offline copy

Tap Prepare offline copy while online. Reopen online once, then turn on airplane mode with Wi-Fi off and reload. The new label checks for this version's cached files instead of resetting to Not prepared. Offline checks apply to the page only; live results are not saved offline. Safari and Home Screen app storage may differ.
